The underground cities of Cappadocia

In Cappadocia underground cities were built beginning 6th century. The purpose was to protect the people from the enemies. They were down to 100 m deep. It was even possible to keep the animals there and ventilation was very good. We went to Derinkuyu where several thousands of people could live. Round stone doors were made in situ.
